At about 4:44 p.m. Sunday, a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a green Mazda SE pickup truck traveling westbound on Green Valley Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed, according to the statement of probable cause. The vehicle was traveling 45 mph in a posted 30 mph zone and the driver, later identified as Spurlock, was talking on a phone, according to the statement.

The deputy completed a traffic stop. At that time, Spurlock could not provide his Maryland registration card nor his insurance car, according to the statement.

After completing his paperwork and returning to the vehicle, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana, according to the statement. The deputy asked Spurlock about it and Spurlock said he had smoked earlier that day. Spurlock also told the deputy he had a baggie of marijuana in the vehicle, according to the statement.

The deputy patted down Spurlock, according to the statement, and found a marijuana cigarette rolling machine, which had trace amounts of suspected marijuana on it.

According to the statement, when searching the vehicle, the deputy also found four burnt rolled cigarettes containing suspected marijuana; one package of organic raw hemp rolling papers; one container of Cyclones pre-rolled grape flavored hemp cones; a small glassine zipper bag containing three round brass filers; a wooden smoking device with burnt residue suspected of being marijuana; a wooden storage container with suspected marijuana in it; a broken green glass smoking device with burnt residue suspected of being marijuana; a piece of a red metal grinder with trace amounts of suspected marijuana; a plastic eye dropper container with a brown liquid suspected of being cannabidiol; a gallon plastic bag containing 123.5 grams of moldy, dried psychedelic mushrooms; and a glass jar of 10.1 grams of dried psychedelic mushrooms.

Once the deputy located the dried mushrooms, Spurlock said the bag they were found in was not his and that a friend must have left them in his vehicle, adding that his friends often borrow his vehicle, according to the statement.

Spurlock was arrested and taken into custody, though he was released on an unsecured bond of $3,500 Sunday.

The number listed for Spurlock on his court documents was incorrect and he could not be reached for comment.
